The Tiamat is a great creature to stumble across, but only if you don’t happen to have any of your own by now.  Which you should. One or two of your own that you’ve gotten or promoted from your earlier travels will be more powerful that these.  The other two classes will probably not be of much help to you, although Kraken are really powerful if you can get them safely to watered areas.

Unit# 18-1

Not as tough as Antanjyl, but still not an easy batch of units.  You’ve got quite a bit more of both different formations & total units to deal with as well. You don’t have to go balls out on this stage, so just watch where the enemy units move to, and respond. It can be easy to have units out of place on such a large stage.

Beat The Stage!

Prologue:  At the doorstep of the Empire’s stronghold stands the fortress of Allamoot.  It is this region that is the bridge between Zenobia and the highlands that house the Empire.  To try and stall your advance, the Empire has enlisted the aid the Gemini Twins, Castor & Polydeuces, two very strong & very stupid warriors.  The rumors of these guardians are lofty indeed, as the tales speak of them being able to slaying dragons in a single blow...

Welcome. To Empire Country. This is the stage were terrain really starts to become a problem.  It’s so big, and there are tons of towns to liberate.  There are even some walls in strategic places to try and halt your march into enemy territory.  And, as an added irritant, there is an item to get here, called “THE SAGA” (The Saga).  It can be sold for lots & lots of Goth, but you can only get it if you have low Reputation, and is really complex to get to boot.  I’ll try my best to point you in the right direction...

Deployment Time!
For a change of pace, you could dust off a Water terrain unit or two for the big expanse of water in the middle of the stage. A lot of enemy units come through here.  The path that the enemy takes goes through Plinsport, and then goes north, zig-zaggin’ it through the mountains, and tries to get to you by going past Tekshigahve.  Some others may try and go straight east of Allamoot, and take the lower route by R.T. #4High Sky units will be greatly helpful on this stage, so use ‘em if you have ‘em.  Your best bet is to send some city liberating units straight south, some southwest, and some north. Canopus can zip around the upper section of the map to liberate the towns and temples in these remote areas. All of your fighting unit should try and head southwest to meet the High Sky units of the enemy. Have your Opinion Leader sit tight the round, or move around and do non-fighting tasks, like get buried treasure when the way is clear.

Step 1:  Okay.  Here’s what’s going down. There is an item on this stage that gives you a crap load of Goth, and it is called “THE SAGA” (The Saga).  The way to get this item involves a bizarre type of scavenger hunt for different items that must be performed while doing the stage. Now, before deciding whether or not you wish to partake in such antics, there are two things that you must know.

I: First and foremost, you have to have a fairly low Reputation in order to even attempt this.  If you are good guy, then most of this stage won’t make any sense to you, and you’ll be missing out on some fun.  Ah well, the “World” ending can’t have everything! If you do have a high Reputation, this will just be a normal liberate and beat the boss stage for you, only on a large map with diverse terrain. You can pick up an item at the hidden town of Pirallel, but that’s it. See you at the boss section!  You can follow through the stage breakdown if you want to, no big...

II:  The start of the treasure hunt hinges upon whether you have the “TOME” (Song of Sodoh) or not, which was available to you on several of the previous stages that you have already completed.  If you never were able to obtain this item, and kept it away from the Roshian Temples on those stages, you can get it here again. Keep reading to see when you can start collecting.

Step 2:  In order to get the “THE SAGA” (The Saga), many of the towns on this stage have to be visited in a certain sequence, and can screw to whole thing up if you don’t.  I mean, you’re already on the low side of things, so you may as well get something for it! The towns that you want to avoid for now are Stun Creek, Laseive, Esquintora, Plinsport, & Matagalp.  This can make for interesting maneuvers while trying to advance upon the enemy.  However, the strategic towns of Tekshigahve, Minach Torahn, El Rosario are fair game, so liberate these as quickly as possible.  El Rosario might be tough to get to, as it is well within the enemy territory, and once you take it over, enemy units will start to attack this garrisoned town. Withstand the assault, and the stage is basically yours.

Step 3:  Some of you still with me? If you want to get “THE SAGA” (The Saga), and who doesn’t, then you listen up. Remember the “TOME” (Song of Sodoh) that had been available on various stages in the game?  Well, if you still got it, here is where it is actually worth something!  A clue will be given at the town of Komaya, which explains that the pirates of the town of Matagalp want to find the treasure of Mulmy, a famous pirate.  So, they need his “MAP” (Mulmy’s Map).  This will start you off on the afore mentioned ‘scavenger hunt’ of collecting & swapping items, which takes you to several different towns across the entire map. In order to reach your goal, there is a certain order of towns that you must liberate.  In this order, liberate Matagalp, Plinsport, Esquintora, Laseive, & Stun Creek.  Then, once you’ve got the “TOME” (Song of Sodoh), go backwards through this order of towns to swap each item that the denizen of each town wants to finally get the “THE SAGA” (The Saga).  If you do not have the “TOME” (Song of Sodoh), then you will have to one up one this stage. More about that further below. So, do not, I repeat, do not liberate any town out of order, or else you’ll be bummin’ and have to redo the stage! You will probably want to wipe out most or even all of the enemy units before you being your mini-quest.  It’s damn annoying to get interrupted all the time with fights when you’re trying to do something or get somewhere!  Then, once the units are gone, you can go about doing this fool thing at your leisure.  Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide how you want to do things.  There is a good chance that you could send your Reputation into the region of the unsalvageable by continuing... It’s your call.  At any rate, here’s a more detailed run-down of the towns & their schpeils:

Town #1: Matagalp: SE of Minach Torahn; at the end of the road

Treasure huntin' pirates!

This is where it all begins! If your Reputation Meter is low, then a band pirates will appear, and ask you for “MAP” (Mulmy’s Map), which is an item that they need to go treasure hunting.  If you have it, they will give you “THE SAGA” (The Saga) for it.  This is your final destination, however, so now you know which town you’ll have to come back to eventually.

Town #2: Plinsport: NE of Allamoot; in the desert by the mountains

A young wise man

Upon liberating this town, you will meet a young wise man. He is looking for the “AMATSU” (Amatsu Statue).  When you bring it to him, he will trade it to you for the “MAP” (Mulmy’s Map).  As a side note, this town is in the heart of enemy territory. So, when you liberate this town, you will get attacked, and attacked often! It is early in this order of towns, so if you grab a hold of this town early, just never lose control of it. It will help stomp enemy units quickly if you do have this town, as they will be drawn here like mosquitoes to a bug zapper!

Town #3: Esquintora: NE of El Rosario; in the mountains near the water

A young magician (that looks like a monk!)

Upon liberating this town, you will meet a young magician who has a favor. He’s been trying to find “FUR” (Zebra’s Fur) to give his fiancée as a gift, but everywhere he has tried has been too expensive for him. However, he is willing to trade it for the “AMATSU” (Amatsu Statue) that he has.

Town #4: Laseive: NW of Esquintora

The merchant Toad

At this town, you will come across an old friend; sort of. It’s the merchant Toad, and he’s up to his old tricks. He just happens to have the “FUR” (Zebra’s Fur), but of course he won’t just hand it over to you for free.  He wants you to buy it off of him, but do not accept!  Notice that he doesn’t say how much, because if you agree, he will take all of your Goth!! When you refuse (like any sane person would!), it turns out that he has a favor to ask of you.  It seems that karma does exist, and it has not been kind to oldde Toad.  Bandits have stolen his “GOBLET” (Golden Goblet), and he will exchange it for the “FUR” (Zebra’s Fur) if you can bring it back to him.

Town #5: Stun Creek: SW of Belmoban; on the island with the road on it

A band of thieves

At this town, you will find the thief that stole the “GOBLET” (Golden Goblet) from Toad.  But the bastard is not willing to give it back to you for free (even though you could probably take him)!  However, he will exchange it for the “TOME” (Song of Sodoh), which finally reveals its use in this game after more than half the game!

Step 4:  What's that? Even with chances on City of Malano & Antalia to pick one up, you say you still don’t have the “TOME” (Song of Sodoh)?? Since Roshian Temples don’t like it at all, it can be hard to keep a hold of while doing those stages. Well, fear not, because there are two ways to get it back on this stage.  If you’re evil, of course...  The only mention of it even existing for those “goodly” Opinion Leaders is when you liberate R.T. #4.  They will tell you that the town of Heskalansa has one, which does you little good since you won’t be able to get it.  It will be helpful for those evil Opinion Leaders, though, because they can actually do something about it! Here are the two ways to get this item on this stage:

Method #1: Go to Heskalansa, and buy the damn thing for a startling 100,000 Goth! That’s a pretty steep sum of money, and it’s the only offer that will be made to you.  So, you have to take it.  Unless...

Method #2: This is the part about sending your Reputation into the crapper.  If you are evil, when you visit R.T. #4, which is SE of Plinsport along the water, you will discover that the Roshian Monks at this temple have confiscated a “TOME” (Song of Sodoh).  No amount of bribing & bartering will make them give it up to you. So, just slaughter them and take it!!  For obvious reasons, you will take a fairly large hit of Reputation, but since it was already low to begin with what’s it matter if it’s even lower!  I guess the people don’t think too highly of someone ambushing & desecrating a temple... This is probably the option that you should choose to get the “TOME” (Song of Sodoh).

Step 5:  Now that you have the blasphemous “TOME” (Song of Sodoh) in your hot little hands, simply revisit all of the relevant towns in reverse order to get “THE SAGA” (The Saga).  In other words: Stun Creek, Laseive, Esquintora, Plinsport, & MatagalpThat’s all there is to it. Not so bad once it’s all planned out, now is it?  Using some “BOOTS” (7 League Boots) to go to the more remote towns can make this process go extremely quickly. To recap, here’s a nice concise table for you to follow, to make sure it all goes right:

Town Name

Item Traded

Item Received

Matagalp

“MAP” (Mulmy’s Map)

“THE SAGA” (The Saga)

Plinsport

“AMATSU” (Amatsu Statue)

“MAP” (Mulmy’s Map)

“AMATSU” (Amatsu Statue)

Laseive

“GOBLET” (Golden Goblet)

“FUR” (Zebra’s Fur)

“TOME” (Song of Sodoh)

“GOBLET” (Golden Goblet)

Heskalansa or R.T. #4

100,000 Goth or big loss of Reputation

“TOME” (Song of Sodoh)

Step 5:  Now that all of this madness is over, the path to the boss castle of Allamoot should be long clear for you. While you are getting the unit that you will use for the boss fight into position, you can take the time to locate the Chaos Gate to Shiguld and any remaining buried treasure.  The Chaos Gate is on the tiny island in the SW corner of the map that is mostly surrounded by walls. The other thing that you probably missed was another item. The hidden town of Pirallel has a “FRAGMENT” (Star Fragment) you, which is available to you regardless of Reputation.  Even though this is another ‘sell for Goth’ item, hang onto it for just a bit. You can get even more Goth out of the thing when you revisit this stage.  Anyway, this boss fight will not be a pushover, so get ready to...

4 Direct & 1 Targeted

The bosses have no escort meaningless characters, and you fight only these two choads all by themselves.  Don’t let that lull you into some false sense of security, however, because this will be a tough boss fight!  They have the all powerful Gemini Attack™, which can wipe out a character in one hit, regardless of their Hit Points!! Also, if that wasn’t enough, they have another attack called Super Nova, which is identical to what a Salamand will do when placed in the Back Row.  You won’t have these in your party or fight against them for a while yet, so you can imagine how powerful it is!  So, have characters with high Fire defenses if you can.  Or, just say the hell with it, and use a “World” Tarot Card.  As far as fighting goes, the ‘leader’ of these two is the giant in the back Row, Castor, and if you defeat him, you will win the boss battle after the round is over.  So concentrate all of your efforts on him.  Surprisingly, Castor himself is really weak to Fire attacks. Blast away with magic users and the “Magician” Tarot Card. If you want to take down Polydeuces also for some reason, his weakest defense is to Physical attacks, which is perfect for your Front Row melee classes. Because their Hit Point totals are soooo large, you will probably have to use multiple Tarot Cards to make even a dent.  Just make sure that characters in the unit make the kills, and not the Tarot Cards themselves.

Available Items

You want items, we’ve got items! Good items, evil items, come one, come all!  There’s even a trinket or two to pick up after you’ve beaten the stage. This stage has the most items available on it by far.

Aftermath

Don’t think that your hunt for items ends with the demise of the boss! There are still plenty of items to pick up after the stage has been beaten. Besides, there’s also a Chaos Gate here!

1) Visit the town of Killing Abal, and you’ll receive an item, and it will be different depending on your Reputation.  If it is between somewhere between half way full and the maximum, you will receive the “LOTUS” (Black Lotus)Too bad not of the M:TG variety! If your Reputation Meter is less than half way full, you will get the “CARVING” (Battle Carving).  If your Reputation Meter is piss poor, then you will get the “FONT” (Font of Desire).  Regardless of which item you get, none of them are important plot wise. They all sell for a nice amount of Goth.

2) Drop by the town of Esquintora, and you’ll receive yet another item. This time around, it’s an item called the “SHELL” (Rainbow Shell).  I’ve heard rumors that if you have full Reputation, you will not get this item, but I don’t recall ever having any trouble myself getting this item.  Whatever. Not like it’s anything too terribly important. Goth should not be an issue at this point anyway!

3) For a third item, stop off at the town of Tekshigahve.  If your Reputation Meter is high, you’ll receive the “STATUE” (Beautiful Statue).  Another unimportant item that is great to sell for a huge amount of Goth.

4) If you still have the “FRAGMENT” (Star Fragment), you’re in luck.  Go to the hidden town of Heskalansa.  They people in this town want to buy it off you, and they will offer you three different prices:
1st offer: 10,000 Goth
2nd offer: 100,000 Goth
3rd offer: 200,000 Goth
Saying “No“ to any of these offers does not affect your Reputation at all, so you can pick the highest offer without any worries!

5) If you did not already find it, there is a Chaos Gate to Shiguld on this stage.  It is SE of Allamoot & E of R.T. #5, on the tiny island in the SW corner of the map that is mostly surrounded by walls. Of course, you must have the unit searching for the Chaos Gate equipped with the “BRUNHILD” (Brunhild) in order to even find it!
