As with the shops on all of the other sky islands, there is a unique item available for sale on this stage too. This time around, it’s the “DOWSER” (Dowsing Rod) item. Not only does it reveal the location of a buried treasure, but it also digs it up for you & retrieves it at the same time! At this point, however, you probably have more than enough weapons & armor to choose from, so the extreme usefulness of this item is somewhat lost. This is not a super powerful item, but definitely one that you will want to have a few of for those especially large stages. You can even use the ‘reset trick’ to find the locations for all of the treasure on every map, but it’s not worth the time. Besides, my detailed maps show you where they all are on every stage!

I guess it would only be fitting that one of each Dragon variation would be available on this stage. No matter really, because you should already have at least one of each kind by now. As to whether you actually use all three is up to you...

Here we have the same total number of unit types deployed as the previous stage, but
not as many total ones. Don’t let that fool you, though, as these units are very well put together overall.
Only three of the nine different units do not have flying capability, so you probably won’t be able to cheese to many of them over the edge of the sky island. So, try extra hard to get rid of those birds and beasts that allow the unit to fly at your first chance! There are also a lot of dragon-type creatures in these units as well to help build upon this stage’s theme. Be ready for them!

Prologue: The floating island of Shiguld used to be a wonderful place to live. Until a powerful knight named Fogel came along, that is. He was in search of the biggest challenge, and his journey brought him here, to defeat the Divine Dragon that lived in this region. After several days & night of battle, Fogel finally prevailed. However, the resulting victory brought with it a terrible curse, the frogut is also cursed!! one that split Shiguld into two separate islands, and transformed Fogel himself into a dragon-faced monster. Therefore, this region is also known as the “Ruined City” because of this catastrophe.
This is the last of all the Sky Islands.
It’s not too big, not too small, but the ‘Goldilocks’ size of it is not what makes this stage challenging. It is divided into two main parts, joined by a series of bridges and narrow islands. You have really got to watch where your units are here, because you don’t want your land based units to get pushed over the edge of the land areas and to their doom. So, be extra careful when you are making a dash across the bridges. Oh, and another thing. Your final special character, Fogel, is available on this stage, but there is a slight choice that you might want to make. More on that later...
Deployment Time! I don’t think that I need to say this, but use as many flying units as possible!! The
computer certainly will! You probably have most of your units with at least some flying capability, but just letting you know that it’s pretty important for this stage. Have just a few ground troops; a
city liberator unit or two should be all for the land units. Send Canopus to the west, so that he can liberate the towns of Bujunbulla & Muwanza. Send your land based city liberators east along the road, which snakes up to the shop town
of Kalishinpi, and eventually further north to Dallu Sarram. Your other, more fighting oriented units,
can go straight north & northwest to meet the enemy advance. They can also allow some High Sky city liberating units to sneak in behind them, and liberate the towns surrounding the boss castle of Shiggult. Your first target should be the town of Alshabi. You can then use some “BOOTS” (7 League Boots) to bring other slower units into the fray. Have your Opinion Leader sit tight, or gather some buried treasures while everyone else fights.
Step 1: There are quite a few trinkets to pick up while trying to best Fogel and his entourage in battle. At R.T. #1, you will be greeted by a Roshian Monk, who will give you a very nice prize, an “ALI POT.” (Soul Mirror)! This item is an excellent way to either fix your Opinion Leader’s Alignment, or put that character that you’ve been trying to gain Alignment for a class promotion all game an extra nudge in the right direction. The choice is yours really. At the other non-hidden Roshian Temple, R.T. #2, you will once again be greeted by a monk upon liberation. This one will give you a “HP POT.” (Vitality Potion). As with all of these items, use it on a class with
traditionally low Hit Points, such as a member of the Faerie or Golem family. Both of these items are great character boosters.
Step 2: Once you reach the town of Kalishinpi, you will run into your ‘buddy’ Toad. This time around, he’s looking for an item called the “JEWEL” (Dragon Jewel). You can conveniently find this item on this very stage! Just visit the town of Dallu Sarram, and it’s yours for free! Now, you have two options. The first would be to hang onto it for now, as you can do something better with it on the return trip to this stage. The second option is to bring it back to Kalishinpi, and barter with Toad for some monetary compensation for your troubles. He offers you three different prices: 70,000, 75,000, & 80,000 Goth. You can pick the third offer without any Reputation penalty, so if you want Goth for this item, take it and run!
Step 3: After all of the town visiting, has been completed, this stage is not
actually that difficult. Simply keep advancing west with your ground troops, and northeast with your flying units, and you will be on the boss castle of Shiggult in no time. A key city is the hidden town of Louenz. This town tells you interesting information about an item called the “FIRESEAL” (Fireseal). Also, the hidden Roshian
Temple, R.T. #3, has quite a story to tell you about the four gods and their “legendary weapons.” It goes a little somethin’ like this:
The east god made Euros to honor his brother, Notos: “NOTOS” (Notos) (Lightning) The south god made Notos to celebrate the birth of his brother, Boleas: “BOLEAS” (Boleas) (Fire) The west god made Zepyulos to fight against evil: “ZEPYULOS” (Zepyulos) (Black) The north wind god made Boleas for the victory of, Euros: “EUROS” (Euros) (Cold)
Hmmm.... Could this shopping list of weapons be somehow related to the mention of “FIRESEAL” (Fireseal) that was made at Louenz?
Step 4: There will be quite a bit of traffic around the town of Louenz though, so try and distract some enemy units with your land forces along the northern road by the town of Macald.
While you are playing patty-cake with enemy units, you can have your a High Sky city liberating unit or two go and find the hidden town of Molongo, and any undiscovered buried treasure or encarcerated towns. You should be boss ready pretty soon after liberating everything. You can wait around and fight
if you want, or you can end it quickly. Just like the other two Sky Knights, it is possible to recruit Fogel into your army. You have to have just the right requirements. At least it doesn't matter which unit you use to fight him. This means that you can use one of your best ones!

2 Targeted & 1 Targeted
Fogel is by far the toughest of the 3 Sky Knights. His stats are the best of all three, and he has the best class of Dragon as a guard, a Tiamat. At least it’s in the Front Row!
You should be able to deal with only two characters in one unit, right? This is one of the few boss battles that you have come across that won’t need a “World” Tarot Card to protect your characters from heavy magic attacks, because there aren’t any! If you are having trouble, his lowest elemental defenses are actually both White & Black, but it would be more effective to use White attacks against
this unit, as it will also greatly damage the Tiamat that is with him. Fogel has tons of Hit Points, so an “Emperor” Tarot Card thrown in would not be a bad idea to help seal the deal.
In identical fashion with both Slust & Fenril waaay back when you defeated them, you’ll get a dialogue with Fogel after he’s come to his senses. The message will different, depending on the consistency of your Opinion Leader. If you have a high to almost full Reputation Meter, your Opinion Leader has at least a 70 in Alignment, and you posses the “HEROSTAR” (Star of Heroes) item, you will get the good dialogue, and he will ask to join your rebellion! Oh, and don’t forget that you have to have free space in your army (100 is the max) for him and his escort!!
Otherwise, he won’t join you no matter how good you are! If you do not measure up to his exacting standards, you will get the bad generic dialogue, in which he will simply thank you for freeing him from Rashidi’s curse, and then that’s all. Oh. There is a little thing about getting a certain sword upon revisiting him...

Ally!

M. O. B. Q. TIP!
There is a bit of confusion going ‘round concerning Fogel. The problem lies in what you get if he doesn’t join you. He will give you his sword, the “ZEPYULOS” (Zepyulos), as a
consolation prize. However, if you are the studious type of adventurer, you will have noticed that this weapon is also one of the four “legendary treasureS’ that you must collect in order to get the “FIRESEAL” (Firecrest).
However, the only way in the entire game to get this item is to not have Fogel join your party. I mean, how can he give you an item when you visit the boss castle of Shiggult if he is with you! Sure, he should just have it with him at the start, but whatever. At any rate, the choice to make is whether you want the “FIRESEAL” (Firecrest), which
you have to give up four pretty sweet weapons for, or get a kickass special character like Fogel to join you. The choice should be obvious, seeing as no one has proven the “FIRESEAL” (Firecrest) to do anything special, other than be a trophy item.

There’s a whole slew of item to snag on this stage! A little bit of everything here. Stat boosters, promotion items, and even a Zodiac Stone!

Tons of things to get involved with here! A little bit of everything is mixed in on this stage...
1) Visit the town of Bujunbulla, and you will be given the “BOX” (Box of Salvation),
which can be sold for an assload of Goth! And even better, there are no Reputation requirements to get this one!
2) For probably your easiest class promotion item in the game, revisit the town of Mupan. Here you’ll get a “DEMON” (Sentoul Demon), so you can even pick and choose which class you want to get the promotion item for! Do you want a Dragoner, or a Sorcerer? Gee... I wonder! Only trade it to Borgnine on Diaspola for a “DRAGOS” (Stone of Dragos) if you want Gilbert or Lyon to eventually become a Dragon Master, and you don’t have any spare ones lying around. You probably have more than enough power casters by now that some support
classes might be more helpful...
3) Here’s a little something that’s not just as simple as revisiting one town. When you stop by the town
of Dallu Sarram, a mysterious figure will appear, and as for the “JEWEL” (Dragon Jewel). Once again, you’ve got two options, which depend on what you did
with this item while you were on the stage. If you’ve still got it, he will trade you an oh so useful “UNDEAD” (Undead Ring) for it! If you sold it to Toad for 80,000 Goth, but still want the promotion item, you’ll have to find Toad again. Luckily, he’s still waiting at Kalishinpi. Unlucky for you, however, is how much he’s trying to
sell it back to you for. 150,000 Goth!! More than twice what you sold it to him for, in fact! If you really want the “UNDEAD” (Undead Ring), you are better off just keeping it while fighting through the stage.
The good thing about this little sequence with the “JEWEL” (Dragon Jewel) is that you can’t lose any Reputation, regardless of what prompts you say ‘YES’ & ‘NO” to.
4) Visit R.T. #2, which is the hidden in the mountains SW of the town of Dallu Sarram, and if you have the “TABLET” (Tablet of Yaru), the messenger of the Gods will present you with the “DIAMOND” (Diamond), which is the fourth stone of the Zodiac.
5) If you did not get Fogel to join your army, you may as well come back for his sword! If you visit the town of Shiggult, Fogel will appear, and give you his sword, the highly elusive “ZEPYULOS” (Zepyulos). This is a rather important item, as it can possibly complete you set of the four "legendary" weapons...
6) I’ve been hinting at it all over this stage guide, so here’s the beef about “FIRESEAL” (Firecrest). If you
have all four of the “legendary treasures” (listed above in the stage walkthrough section), you can bring all four of them over to the hidden Roshian Temple, R.T. #3, and you will get a seemingly innocent items called “FIRESEAL” (Firecrest). The details mention a warrior by the name of Lexar...
Please Note: Red octorocks do not give bombs! Anyway... The “FIRESEAL” (Firecrest) is not a necessary piece of the “World” ending pie. Fogel is, and that’s that. However. There are wild rumors and hearsay that you’ll hear stating otherwise. Some say that the real use of this “FIRESEAL” (Firecrest) item is to magically open the way the super not-so-secert stage called Dragon’s Haven. This stage is a hidden bonus stage, and can only be played by using the name FIRESEAL when you create a new quest (like using MUSIC/ON as your name to get the sound test). Other than this deceptively simple trick, this is all that
is known about this item. No one else has found anything else concerning this item.
Another Side Note: I’d like to
point out to all of you conspiracy theorists out there that the lovely little flow chart of stages that was originally on the back page of the SNES instruction booklet has a line coming off of this stage to the
fabled Dragon’s Haven. Not that I claim to know how to get there, but this stage of Shiguld might be a good place to start looking for clues...
